In 2024 - after 25 years of music licensing - Dan Napoli decided to formally create a music licensing and supervision company called Sonic Defiance.

Now a successful documentary director himself, Dan’s very first gig in production was as a Music Supervisor way back in 1999. Since then, he has continued to license music not just for his own projects, but has helped a number of other filmmakers put music to their visions.

All together, Dan has licensed more than 400 tracks in over 100 projects placed in broadcast, internet, streaming, home video / DVD, film festival, and limited- theatrical releases over his career.

Music is one of the most important tools any filmmaker can use. Unfortunately, the path to selecting music, finding the rights holders, knowing appropriate budgets and rights fees is really hard and complex pathway to navigate – especially for a small, indie production.
